Make your own sausage rolls, so much nicer and you can buy rolled puff pastry and sausage meat quite cheap.

Mini sausages are lovely glazed with honey and wholegrain mustard then oven done.

Mini tartlets with tomato and brie.

Chopped peppers and such with dips such as houmous and tzaziki.

Dessert wise...

Mini fruit tartlets (mandarin and peach segments, rasberries etc... are great for this) with a gelatine glaze.

If near Christmas, mini Christmas puddings with brandy butter layer on top

Mini puff pastry mine pies.
classy?

halved cobs/rolls with grated cheese/ plastic ham are out then?

cold rice and veg,
cold pasta with tuna sweetcorn and mayo,

you could make a kids birthday party style buffet but put everything in nicer bowls,, its all about the presentation anyway!

chicken legs, pineapple onions and cheese

bread sticks and dips, cvashew nuts, mixed indain snacks, spring rolls,,

if you can serve anything hot, try garlic mushrooms,

cold mini pizza,

try and find some vegetarian party snacks in your supermarket freezers, they area bit different and really go down well. they have sausage rolls but wth mushy veg stuff in them!, an you can never go wrong with a massive pork pie cut into tiny pieces... my favorite..

for the dessert, dont try and get loads of different puddings, try just two.. dont get all the mini cakes, look at all of your options and think which would i eat if i was a guest, its easy to blag the savories, but the cakes are easy to spot the cheap ones, try a supermarket finest range of fresh cream cakes if you are only having a few guests, if you are talking 20 to 100's of guests, try and find a local catering supplyer of cakes, most do cheesecakes and chocolate fudge cakes, and both will be made quite nicely, "straight out of the box and a bit different"

or if you are making your own puddings,
id start off with mini banoffee pie,s, and the tartlets mentioned above..
How about mini prawn tempura with a sweet chilli dip...mmmm

Indian salad is gorgeous too, lots of little bits very finely diced eg cucumber, onion and tomato and all put in together with some watercress and salad dressing, much easier than separate salad items.

Sauteed potatoes are lovely especially with mini gammon bites or the honey sausages mentioned above. Honey chicken wings are lovely too with rice.

Rice can be done easily in the microwave cover with ample water and microwave for about 9 mins to save time.

Mini yorkshire puddings can be served with a variety of fillings.

Spicy sausage pasta is lovely.
You can get in all supermarkets bitesize pikelets/pancakes. Dollop on some cream cheese (Philedelphia) and then a really thin slice / sliver of smoked salmon.

Another idea is get some pittas bread and cut in half. Fill the pocket with either some prawns or cray fish mixed in with some rose marie sauce.

Buy some caremilsed onion bitesize tarts and top some with a sprinkling of goats cheese.

If you want sandwiches / rolls then uise different breads. Ciabatta or Focaccia for example and make open rolls. Don't use to much filling. You don't want your guests dropping food over themselves and the carpet!!

Have a great party,

Recently had a buffet for me 40th and adored by all. Got a recipe for a white chocolate and raspberry trifle from bbc not cheap but none was wasted http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/whi techocolateraspbe_73891.shtml
Also I got a jar of peppadew peppers (Tesco's) and stuffed them with a mix of feta cheese, lemon and black olives.
I also bought some prunes and wrapped them in streaky bacon fastened with a cocktail stick and fried until bacon is cooked.
Cornbread straight from the cooker is a fave of mine (recipe again on bbc)
Also any kind of couscous with a mix of veg and fruit. You can also get a great cheeseboard with cheeses from Aldi or Liddle, with fresh figs also from Lidl and some grapes this can make a lovely classy centrepiece
