If a fly is called a fly ... why isnt a fish called a swim ??

Same reason that a person is not called a walk, a snail is not called a slither and a beetle is not called a crawl.

The reason isn't too difficult to deduce, given Saanen's elaboration...it's because not every creature' s name is the same as the name given to its mode of locomotion. Apart from anything else, there are multitudes of creatures - other than fish - which swim. Should they all have been called 'swims'? Could have given naturalists no end of difficulty!
