Its possible your camellias may have suffered from frost or cold wind damage, partial sun and shade sounds ok but the site needs to be sheltered if possible. Cut back any obviously dead wood in may and hopefully it might resprout. Caellias do not do so well on chalky soils. A good mulch of manure or ericacious compost around the roots may be of benifit, everything else you are doing seems fine. Dont forget to keep it well watered all year round ! Good Luck.
