Doughnut recipe

I have just obtained a doughnut making gadget which makes ring doughnuts just like the fried ones you buy from the commercial machines which cook as you wait, thats great, but I can't find a decent recipe for the dough which makes doughnuts anything like the ''real'' ones you buy, does anybody have a good one they can pass on. btw I can only get instant yeast not fresh.

Yeast? In doughnuts? (It's normally baking powder that makes doughnuts 'rise').

Oh really... wouldn't have though of that - but the point of the AB is to ask if anyone has some experience to offer. I mean, really, qapmoc probably can't get out of the straps long enough to do all that searching.....not with doughnuts to make now...


The query does ask for any good ones to pass on so a reasonable question raised...


Try adding a cider vinegar to the batter - adds a flavour to it and lightens the mix....

Hey, Nickmo... Wouldn't you reckon that many of the Google websites are by people offering their own experience, and who consider their own recipies to be the beezneez, and who have therefore already answered the question?


(Agree about the cider vinegar, though).

I have one of the basic doughnut makers, that came with a recipe, which I always use.


I don't have it on me now, but if you are still interested, I can post it for you on the weekend.

qapmoc, if you find a really good recipe let me know too, I would love a recipe that actually tastes nice...

Also, if in your travels on your quest for an authentic doughnut mix you happen to find a good gluten free doughnut recipe let me know. All the free from recipes I have are weird.

actually the recipe Buenchico posted looks really good. I have heard of doughnut recipes having yeast in and when done at home it is just so heavy....that one in the link looks really good. I'm gonna try that with a substitue flour and some xanthum gum....

Uh... heathfield, don't take this the wrong way but if you think that everything that might be needed/wanted can be answered in google then why do you even look on the answerbank anyway. As it happens the google answers I got were mostly for rolled and cut type doughnuts and the machine I have uses semi-liquid dough which is squished out of the discharge end in a ring shape.

The doughnut maker I bought has a simple recipe with it which uses yeast and it makes disgusting doughnuts. Even next doors dog didn't eat more than half a one, and he usually eats anything which he can get in his mouth.

Sorry, took me a while, but here it is:


725g flour
70g sugar
25g baking powder
1 packet vanilla sugar (about 1 TBS or a few drops of vanilla essence)
500g water


Mix all ingredients at room temperature.
Dough should not be too liquid, but tear off the mixing spoon easily.
If necessary, add some more water or flour.


That's all.
As I said, I use this for my hand held doughnut maker.
