My long stored uncooked white rice turned yellow.


Is it safe to cook and eat?

I would worry about what has caused it turn yellow.

Throw it out to be on the safe side. It's cheap enough.
The very instant a doubt appears in your mind about any foodstuff...bin it! Even if it might possibly be OK, why take the risk? Better a few pence - or even pounds - lost than food-poisoning, surely.

Come accross this before See : http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=69772 which says the alkalinity of the water affects the colour of the cooked rice. Vinegar or lemon juice in the water will stop the rice from discolouring - as used for jerusalem artichokes, or other white flesh veg.


If the rice is really old though, chuck it out........

Rice is particularly susceptible to the causes of food poisoning, throw it away emary
