Acetic acid, diluted with water in the simplest form. Normally about 5 - 10% or so acid for table use. Much more than this and it is the same as chemical reagents used in industry.

Balsamic vinegar is from the pressings of grapes that are oxidised rather than fermented, and malt vinegar from malt grain - as in whisky.

Non brewed condiment is basically just the acetic acid, sometimes with added caramel for colour. Suggest avoid this as really too sharp and not a good thing to consume...

Cider vinegar - apple, Wine vinegar - specifically from wine that has been oxidised

Incidentally, acetic acid is used in making wood glue and some plastics....

There are many many different types of vinegar.

The vinegar we put on our chips is properly made from malting barley.

An ale is brewed from this malting and allowed to sour, becoming vinegar.
