I always poach my eggs in the microwave. If you set it on a medium/low power and stand by it so you can keep checking it hasn't burst (when you hear it bubble, take it out and run a knife around the edge) it should take about 40 seconds. I don't use water but I do put a drop of oil at the bottom of the mug to stop it sticking.
Be careful, once one of my best friends tryed to cook a boilled in the microwave and it exploded when she took it out! she's still got a small scar on her neck, bless her
Just imagine the mess if it did explode in your microwave! i didn't see the programme but i imagine around 5 mins try it and see!

less than a minute to poach egg in the microwave.....its not always easy to do mind you! a lot of the time youll either cooke the white perfectly and have a solid yolk or get the yolk right and have undercooked white.... much easier to do on the hob. can use warm or cold water but obviously itll be quicker with warm
