Haven't bought these in a long time but did so yesterday - was looking at directions on how to cook them when I noticed that the fish was Alaska Pollock - yet I remember buying them before and it always said 100% cod. Is Pollock ok.

Pollock is a cheaper white fish, which is ok. If you want cod fish fingers make sure that the packaging states that it is cod.

I'll look out for that in future - they were Birds Eye who always do cod. Do think my lovely local fishie shop is using cheap fish too as that last one was not nice.

right Bazile - read the link but it would be cod for me everytime.
Same applies in fish shops Jenny, I always ask for cod or haddock so that I know what I'm getting - not forgetting a bit of plaice if they have it
it's illegal for your chippie to advertise cod and and sell something else
I was only giving you info about Pollock , not reccomending or otherwise :-)
But if you just ask for fish and chips they can get away with it
if you want quality try the giant fish fingers at Waitrose, usually £1 each but sometimes 4 for £3 or reduced on the app. The coating is very good. Unfortunately, for some reason, you cant add them to a delivery.

crap - don't have Waitrose in Bealfeirste
Lots of frozen fish products are sold as white fish. You have to read the small print on the back to find out what type it is. If it is cod it will say so on the front in big letters.
I don't like Pollock and I won't eat panga
//But if you just ask for fish and chips they can get away with it//

That's why you should ask for 'cod n chips'
Our local fish and chip shop sells a white fish called panga which is cheaper than cod. It is advertised as panga though so you know what you're getting.

I don't see a problem with eatin pollock instead of cod. What does it matter?
I’ve learnt to look for ‘cod’ Jj - even on pub/restaurant menus. If it says ‘fish’ instead of ‘cod’ I don’t want it.
Dave, I don't like Pollock, I love cod. I wouldn't be happy to have Pollock if I were expecting cod.
