Do any of you think it a chore to be doing a roast on Christmas day? If you could get away with something simpler, would you?
I'm having gammon hotpot as there is only going to be me & the moggy this year. Might put a few roast potatoes with it but only if I can be bothered. No Christmas pud or cake in my house, cant stand them!
Leena only fancy Sunday lunch

Sounds good to me bagpuss!
Eleena. I don't mind it. I'm not an xmas fan so to me it's like doing a glorified roast dinner. I'd much rather scrambled eggs & smoked salmon to a fry up any day for breakfast.

We don't eat till late so there's no rush for us. I know some people eat about 1 or 2 o'clock...which is mental for this house.

To y, I'd much rather do something that's easy to set up and then sit around and have a drink and a laugh.

I think I'm too old to be bothered ummmm.
Bag will also have gammon.

My 4 year old grandaughter would much rather help herself and be free to wander around too.
I haven't cooked Xmas dinner in years. Usually go to the in-laws but they've moved back to Ireland.

Not bragging but my food will be much nicer :-D
Ummm. They are difficult to get hold of. They keep flying away:-)
Seriously, try your local butcher or game dealer. I'd also try Waitrose.

Thanks for replies x
That's the plan
I'll try the butcher as he said he can get most things if we give advance orders.

What's it taste like? Is it gamey? I love venison.
Guinea fowl is lovely and tastes a bit gamey but not like pheasant or partridge. On bird usually does 2 -3 people. Goose: Expect it to be at least 50% fat. I sometimes do goose with a back up of a small turkey (small for us is about 15lb.) A 10lb goose will only give about 6 portions as there is hardly any meat on the legs, but it is really nice if your guest are not big eaters.
This year we are having Wild Boar on the 25th. along with the usual huge Turkey.
I won’t be doing the cooking himself is as I will still be recovering from the op I had on Friday
My OH always helps with the cooking on the "25th - he loves cooking and so do I ,but its nice to have a commis chef for the day.
They'll only be 3 of us this year...I think
