Hi I bought this Wok today at a fleamarket and it's by far the nicest WOK I ever saw or used, far nicer than our Le Creuset one which set us back £550, but the only mark it has stamped on it is on the bottom and seems to say RELA- I can find absolutely no trace of this online at all so does any foodie soul know if this might stand for something instead of actually being a make or if it's an acronym, as it seems such fantastic quality that I feel it must have a makers name attached to it somewhere. It's heavy cast iron, twin handles ( again cast not wooden) and is really beautiful Thanks in advance. x

Could it be relance - a Dutch brand?

I'm not sure if that was a typo or not but did you really pay £550 for a wok ?
At a fleamarket Mikey. probably £5.50
Kval didn't buy the expensive Le Creuset at the fleamarket today, she bought the one she's asking about.

No, our own Wok is a Le Creuset one, that was about £550, this one cost me £45 second hand but is beautiful! Will check out Relance thank you Toorak :)
RELA is Dutch for cheap tat :-)
Question Author
Toorak, thank you I think that might be it :) I'll be certainly buying more of their stuff, it's fabulous quality and only 90 Euro, so massively cheaper than Le Creuset. Thank you :)
Are you sure it's a wok and not a kadai?
Sorry - your answer wasn't there when I started typing

Hi thanks SJ, but it is a wok and not a Kadai :)
£550 for a wok ?
Mikey Le Creuset are totally overpriced.
Question Author
Around that figure Mikey, my mother bought it, it was this one I think I paid £45 for mine second hand and I think it's nicer. You probably only ever buy one in a lifetime so it's not as excessive as it probably sounds, she's got tons of LeCreuset stuff, but she's only ever bought them once because they last.
The dearest Le Creuset wok on line at the moment is £190
For £550 you could probably rent a Chinaman to come and cook your dinner every night.
I don't think a Chinaman would use a Le Creuset he would use a well seasoned plain cast iron one..
I just googled le creuset woks and the most expensive was 229...though 150 is average.
And I thought the woks you got in Chinatown were often the best.
WHY 550 for a wok?
Maybe it was part of a set.
I think most Chinese use carbon steel woks....
I bought mine from a Chinese supermarket for about £10-00, 20yrs ago. It's still going strong. The secret of keeping the wok in good nick is all in the seasoning.
