Can someone remind me of the difference, please. next Saturday, we're going to have loads of left-over cooked lamb shoulder meat and want to turn it into a pie. which is the one where you use cooked meat?
Cheers, Chox.

Cottage Pie is made with beef mince and shepherds pie is made with lamb mince.
I think shepherds pie contains minced lamb.
Shepherds Pie made with lamb. Cottage Pie made with beef.
Cottage pie made with beef, shepherd's pie with lamb.
Easiest way to remember is to think what shepherds look after.
As above.
Cottage pie is made of cottage, shepherds' pie is made of shepards. All meat is cooked, very few dishes serve it as raw mince.
Talking of raw mince, has anyone tried steak tartare? Many a time in France I've wanted to try it but never had the courage.
No. No I'm not eating raw beef, but i believe it is delicious prepared properly .
Yes jackdaw in Belgium many times, it's an acquired taste.

Thanks folks, appreciate your help. So it's shepherds pie for a few days next week then! Cheers Chox.
Yes, JD - first time by mistake, I admit. The meat is actually 'cooked' by the acids used. Not my 1st choice but edible. Escargots were undertaken with trepidation, but proved OK (if chewy). I drew the line at frogs' legs because I had read about how they were sourced.
Biggest mistake (very earl.y on) was mistaking 'cervelles' for 'crevettes'. You don't make that mistake twice, believe me! I'll never forget those 2 tiny brains presented to me glistening in a jus. I'd ordered it, so I had to eat some of them. :)
Had some cervelles once when I was 13, quite liked them. Much later I had a dodgy dish of crevettes and was frightened to leave the hotel for 24 hours.
I have never had frogs' legs, nor have the vast majority of French people.
