i keep onions and tatties in those storage bags from lakeland..not together though
I store them both in the fridge.
I never store either in the fridge!
Why not? I store them together without a problem. I don't keep them in the fridge though.
I keep them separately in two plastic boxes in a dark area under a kitchen work surface.
If you google growing vegetables it suggests that onions should be kept away from potatoes. See below for reasons.

Probably something to do with the onions making the potato's eyes water.

Maybe.
^Haaa!
My pots are in a dark cupboard and my onions in the veg rack!
Yes, shouldn't be stored in close proximity...but in a cool, dark place with air able to circulate around them (both onions and spuds). Plastic boxes and bags not a good idea...unless it's small new spuds in the fridge for several days.
I have last few of my potatoes in strong paper Catsan bags, very useful. I just have to remember to chit them occasionally. Onions are hung in dark shed. Lasting very well.

thanks for all these varied replies
I didn't know they weren't meant to be kept together. I try to keep my potatoes out of daylight in a canvas bag to stop them going green, and usually just put the onions in as well.
I'll keep them separate in future.
