If a married couple are both unemployed,do they sign on separately or does the husband do this for both of them.

separately surely ?or how would they know the wife was job searching they would want proof not just the husband's word.

At one time,the husband claimed for both of them..the wife not working of course.They would know if the wife is not working ,just by putting in her NIN,no??
This is just a hypothetical question,nothing more
Separately - depends how old she is, if she's paid full NI all her life, etc., as to how much she might get.

Thanks,so it is possible for a wife to be signing on,what if the husband is on long-term sickness benefit
If the wife is looking for a job and is on job-seekers allowance she would have to sign on no matter what her husband's status might be.
