anyone got a decent cherry sauce recipe? It's to go with duck

The only way that I've come across it being made is to use cherry jam and red wine as the basis. That seems to be endorsed by Antony Worrall Thompson

but Brian Turner opts for white wine when actually using cherries which, together with the absence of sugar from the jam, would probably produce a far more piquant sauce:
