I'm making some beef stock in my slow cooker, it smells gorgeous.

How long do you think I should leave it cooking for, it's been on since noon.

What are you using to make the stock? I've never made one.
4 hours 42 minutes is the optimum time.....

Thanks all, I'm going to do a beef and barley soup for tomorrow night. Never cooked beef stock before but I was in Morrisons yesterday and they were selling beef bones so I thought 'why not'.

They had pork shanks as well so it's Schweinhaxe next week. Tesco don't sell many things like this except pork belly which they dress up into their Finest range!

Shoota, I think thet 4 hours is more for a hob.

Definitely until bedtime, I'd probably top up the water and let it carry on over night to make sure I've got every last bit of goodness from the bones!

Did you roast them first?

You paid for them???? My butcher gives me carrier bags of bones and chicken carcasses as he has to pay to have them taken away!

Great stuff, I'll leave them on all night then. I didn't roast them first because I didn't think about it until I put them on :)

I've asked my butcher a couple of times without success, perhaps I'll badger him in the week ;) They were only a couple of quid though.
Just a question: my supermarket sells bones for animals. Do you think these could be used for stock or not?

I've no idea, but unless they've been treated in some way to make them more agreeable to animals then I don't see why not.

Actually, they might not have been looked after as hygienically as they would have been for human consumption.
Oh so it was you who bought all the beef bones! My dogs had to go with out I'll have you know ;)

Lol, do you give them ones to the dogs? I never even thought of Yogi when I saw them.
Yep, those and the lamb ones... not the pork though.
