Scanning the channels last night I came to a similar conclusion...how can there be all these channels yet just the odd programme worth watching.

I agree. Do you think there was more to watch when we just have the four channels? Maybe we have got used to there being so much on tv we think "I'll watch it on catch up" or "I'll record it using my hard drive recorder and watch another time". I've recorded films more than once without realising it!
