How did we cope. As a kid we had one fire in the front room. Bedrooms were freezing, but we managed. As an adult I always said No credit card for me, or mobile phone for that matter. Then I was robbed of my belongings on holiday. I really wished at that time I had succumbed to modern technology.
The frost patterns on the window were very pretty.
I now really appreciate being warm. Shame my radiator is on the blink. just bought a hot water bottle, for use in the living room.
fred I was able to scrape the ice of the windows inside the bedroom windows. My friends still laugh (I just took it for granted) I put a jumper wrapped over my head with the sleeves tied under my chin - God I loved that jumper.
Agree Jeza - in our living room, our fronts were flaming hot at the fire and our backs were frozen, we'd put a coat on to go to the toilet. We never hung around in our nightclothes, we always got dressed as soon as we woke up - and dressed properly, I never had a pair of bedroom slippers until I was about 18.
We had the luxury of a parafin heater in our room as kids. The thought of it now is horrifying with all the fire risks, you just wouldnt do it these days.
It stank to high heaven but we were warm.
