Am I alone in feeling a bit annoyed by this?

Presumably the store management must agree to them being there, but I don't like having to run the gauntlet on the way in and out.

I feel really uncomfortable, when they do this, also at the tills
Question Author
At the tills? That's even worse.
I know, you feel like you have to donate something, i might have only a couple of items, but they insist on packing my bag
Especially when they want to pack your groceries for you. Ermmm..no thanks-I put a lot of my bits in a small backpack...they are not going near it!
Just thought, not a charity, but you know collecting for footy teams, and gymnastic clubs
they don;t bother me. the ones i see don;t hassle you just stand there. they sometimes have kids on the tills helping to pack but they ask quite politely first if they can.
I get fed up with them being at the tills every weekend or during school hols. They start packing your bag before you can say no, so you feel obliged and they dont pack things correctly and then on quite a few occassions not even said thank you when Ive put money in the bucket which Ive usually had to dig from the bottom of my bag as I pay by card most of the time. I say thank you out loud until they look up and understand what Im asking. I hate bad manners above everything else !
How can they insist? At my local Tesco's they offer but I always say no thanks because I like to organise it my way ready to unpack. The gauntlet doesn't worry me. I am quite hardnosed about charity donations ands choose who i will and wont donate to.
don't feel guilty -just give a nice smile and say "no thank you"
It doesn't bother me, if I want to give I do and if not, I don't. Charities need money and they have to get it somehow.
The last straw for me was in the run-up to Christmas at my local tesco - two burly blokes with some logo or other were literally bawling at shoppers along the lines of 'c'mon GIVE GIVE GIVE'. I was amazed that the store allowed it.
The way I view giving is that you should give what you can afford as a private matter and should never respond to any attempt to 'oblige' you. The latter is just the same as any aggressive begging.
That GIVE, GIVE, GIVE was over the top, definitley.

If I had seen that, Mosaic, then I probably would have expressed my view to the store management.
I give whenever I can - A small amount to most charities. I give more to local small charities that also collect in the foyer of Morrisons. The collectors just stand in the cold foyer and I admire them. They don't pester. I am not so keen on the offer at the checkout to pack for charity because I don't like people packing for me, but I can't say it annoys me.

It's not as if they rattle a tin under your nose. It is easy just to ignore them.
Agree.
If a tin is rattled in front of you,you can lodge a complaint this is classed as begging.
^^

Correct. Rattling or calling out counts as soliciting a donation and contravenes terms and conditions they are collecting under.

Different for 'Chuggers' of course because they aren't (directly) collecting money
Hate when scouts, guides, footballers (wee ones) etc start packing your shopping without asking first at the tills. I'm fussy about how my shopping is packed and would prefer to do it myself.
I onl know of one lot that pack bags for you and that is only allowed 1 day a year. As to the collectors perfer to help by buying stuff from charity shops and giving them stuff I don't want.
I never let myself be affected by these people. If I spot them as I get to the door,I hang a notice around my neck saying " I GAVE "
