yeast is a plant which lives everywhere. Yeast for baking is grown in vats on special mixture, then compressed and dried.

I don't want to appear pedantic but yeasts are not plants they are fungi. Although they used to be in the plant kingdom, they now reside in the "Kingdom Fungi" in fact in the ascomycotina division of the kingdom fungi. http://www.sidwell.edu/us/science/vlb5/Labs/Classification_Lab/Eukarya/Fungi/
