I've used up all the jars I have with jam (15 pounds) and the tree has still masses of red mirabelles. Would it be OK to make more, put the jam in small plastic food bags, and freeze them?

Yes, but without the cooking...

@heathfield, Thanks, but I don't see the point in storing jars in the freezer ! my problem is, I don't have any more jars.
Khandro,
I'd never heard of 'mirabelles' before. Looked it up, so they are plums? Can't you just freeze the whole plum ... http://chat.allotment...pic=44677.0;topicseen
Don't bother with jars, just put it in the plastic bags to freeze it. Or, if you're feeling flush, use tupperware-type containers. Easy.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
Yes, it would be fine to do that, but would be better if you made some jam tarts. You could then invite us all round for a jam tart morning.

Good idea, eh?
Jam will keep almost indefinitely unless moisture is added. Freezing jam is a waste of effort and energy, but the fruit can usefully be frozen on its own in order to make the jam later.
