my daughter is 3 year old and in the day time she likes to play outside between 10am and 6pm, these last few weeks our eldrly neighbour at the back has been complain abut the noise she make: general playing noise and laughing, she has been giving me and my daughter fowl abuse and swearing in front of my daughter, she gets quite distressed about this and is gettin scared of going out. was wondering if there were any laws into this? she has threatened to report me to the housing association which provides my housing. surely it is much better for my child to be playing out in the fresh air thanbeing stuck indoors

I tend to agree with you. As long as the noise is just general playing noise and is not at unsociable times then I think that is okay. Having said that, my neighbours daughter had another little girl in to play in her garden and this little girl was making this horrid screaching noise that I think was meant to be a horse and I could cheerfully strangled her!!!! You might want to check if it a particular noise that sets your neighbour of or is it just anything. I wouldn't stand for her swearing etc and would be inclined to report her first.

it is general playing with her toys on bike, trampoline slide etc, i'm really mad tonight as my daughter came in and sed mummy will that mardy women smack me, so obviously she has heard her say somethingi really dont like her language and not once has she asked politley to be a bit quieter! first time she asked she sed shut the f up my husband in bed at 4pm, thought fair enough and brought my daughter inside, dont see why i should have to keepher indoors coz she feels like moaning its ok when her dog barks at all hours! i asked other neighbours if my daughter playin bothers her and they sed no and that the women has reported others that have lived here too!
your 3 yr old said "mardy woman"?

anyway.. much as I agree with you, there are kids in the garden behind mine who play out. they scream (proper, piercing screams), shout, argue, the mother shouts at them and the whole thing can spoil just wanting to sit in my garden.

so if your garden is nothing like that, I would still agree with you!
Small children make noise when they play, or did people who complain about youngsters making noise have really quiet kids themselves?
Question Author
yeah she did say mardy women, started nursery a month ago picked alot of new things up! i didnt learn her it! although i do sometimes feel like tellin her to shut up herself! my daughter sometimes had friends around and they play hide and seek get excited etc but if thy do get noisy i do tell them and its not constant noise
Kids will be kids and kids make noise. Just ignore her if you can. I doubt the housing association will take any action, i am sure they have more pressing matters to attend to. By the way, what is a mardy woman?
have you been around (with a tray of cakes maybe and a bunch of flowers) and talked to your neighbour or is the situation too fraught for that?. Rather get her on side than make an enemy
Question Author
ust bad tempered, whiney and abrupt, normally when someones in a mood
Question Author
shes not an actual neighbour shes from around the back of me, tried sayin hello over fence when i first moved in but she wasnt very polite
leanne you obviously care a lot for your daughter so why not try to make her time in her garden better by befriending your neighbour instead of alienating her. Perhaps your neighbour has had bad experiences in the past or is very lonely - you may have a friend there if you make a real effort (I appreciate it could be difficult but maybe worth while in the long run)
Question Author
tbh i couldnt even make the effort if i wanted to as she bangs on her window n shouts out of it, its not as if she is in her garden relaxing, when i'm inside and daughter out i can hardly hear her so it isnt that loud, think shes ust pickin something to moan about
I quite agree that children have to play, but there is nothing worse than when you are sitting in your garden to hear children screaming. There is a woman next door but one to us whos kids were out in the garden screaming the other afternoon and it was awful. My dog is normally quiet but when he heard them he started barking. My husband let him bark and we havent heard them lately. I dont suppose she could stand the dog barking and her own kid's screaming. I have no objection to children playing but when they start screaming then that is a different matter.
So what do you want the solution to be? There is only you and your neighbour who can sort this and if you aren't prepared to talk then what's the solution?
We have a screamer next door, and I notice it because I've just moved and before had no such hassles. That said, it's her garden - it spoils my enjoyment a little but I was a kid once, and I can live with it. I wouldn't dream of trying to limit them.
Question Author
but what about laughing and having fun? its not screaming if it were she wud b told off shes a good happy kid most of the time like all kids she has her moments, ive asked other neighbours and they are fine with her playing out
Question Author
well i dont know what to do, do i stop her from playing out n keep her in or let her out to play and let the women moan and shout all the time? as i said the earliest i let her out is 10am she goes nursery at 12 till 3 n she normally has another hour out about 4ish and she in bed by 6pm
when my two eldest children were small and played out in the garden a neighbour on one side would close her curtains! There is nowt so queer as folk!

Your neighbour must realise that children are of their very nature noisy, and if they are not I, for one, would wonder what was the matter with the children. If she continues to be obnoxious (she was young once, too) just let your child play as she will (she will only be a child for a short period.....it goes by too quickly).

Sometimes my neighbours are noisy but so long as they are not carrying on well into the night I let them be.
This neighbour should learn the concept of live and let live.
I would let my children out to play - it's not as if she is out really early or really late, or swearing. It sounds like she is known to your neighbours and just likes to complain.
Just try and be polite to your neighbour, you are doing nothing wrong. The trouble is, once something starts getting on your nerves, you notice it - I know what she means, we had some really noisy kids next door at one house, and every time I heard them I got alert for trouble. It's hard for both sides if she's determined that it's annoying her, but you seem to have your end under control.
I cant believe how many poeple dislike kids screaming. They're only playing.

Poor little mites, let them have fun :-)

I have a 2 year old and i'm lucky i suppose as i have no one on either side of me. If someone did moan, i'd ask them politely to mind their own business as my child was just having fun.
