I thought this must be some sort of weird wind-up - but apparently it's not :

As a card carrying atheist, the sacreligious aspect doesn't worry me - but I'm not sure how well it will sit with some of the more straight-laced believers?

Can’t see it would be a problem. It’s hardly the Free Presbyterian Church. You can buy wine in cathedral ships and monks were making beer before time began :-)
You even get to drink wine at communion I believe ...

Yes - I think the Wee Frees might be having a bit of a moment if it was on Lewis :)
We only became altar boys for the communion wine.
Holy Spirit takes on a whole new meaning!...
And who knows....they may be starting with bottles of water....and a miracle will turn it into......well not quite wine..... ;-)

Are they the free, ie liberal, wing of the Presbyterian church in Scotland?
only the ones under five foot two, Sandy.
The Crankies, would they be members?
After Jesus saw off the the hawkers and the money lenders from church land I am surprised it is allowed! Must be something to do with have to pay tax. ;-)

the Methodists allow drink.....they didn't use to.

last time i was in a Presby church, the chapel in Chariots of Fire, where Liddell stopped the kids from playing foota on the Sabbath, near N. Berwick, they served communion wine to folk in the pews....a fine South African blood it turned out to be.
I went to a 'do' at Ripon cathedral last year. Gin & Champers cocktails on arrival. Lots and lots of wine. A bar to get all sorts of other drinks. Silent disco after.

Ya godda move wid da times, aintcha!
