is it lawful that the C.S.A can write to me stating that I have no liability for child maintenance and then a year later go back on their word and send my details to a debt collecting agency claiming that i am in arrears to the sum exceeding 3000.00

hi im not sure if they are allowed to do it but they done a similar thing to us. my partner and his ex argued over money when they first split and she put in a claim for child maintanance through the csa. after a while of it not been sorted he started giving her money and she stopped the claim with the csa. we had all this in writing stating that they have come to there own arrangemrnt. 3 years later we receieved a letter saying that my partner owed 4275 pound to them. 12 months later we are still arguing the case with them.
in my opinion they are useless, my partner has always been willing t pay for his son and it is him that gets problems like this. where as the fathers that refuse to pay get away with it for years. i wish you look in sorting it out. do not back down though, stand your ground with them.
is it worth contacting the citizens advice bureau?

but if it is your child surely you should have been paying regardless of what the c.s.a said?

also if they want 3000, i'm sure they'll be able to set up a payment scheme for you.

like i said, ring Citizens Advice, they'll help you.
Tetjam, that is not a clever answer, you have no idea of the posts situation, so why say such stupid things. If you can't think of a good answer then don't bother at all.
well said eye shade
Yes, exactly, (claps hands together very satisfied).

Thank you all for your responses. I have been to the C.A.B but all they do is refer me to someone who refers me to someone else. MiniN, I was paying, but none of my previous payment has been considered. A company called Iqor has contacted me regarding the payments but every time they call me the goal posts seem to move with regards to the amount they want per month.

Eyeshade thank you for putting Tetjam in his place and sticking up for me but ignore him/her cause even the shallow minded individuals in our society need a say,
coould you try the CSA directly then? if you have proof of your payments then they HAVE to take these in to account.

this may be a case of miscommunication, that may be easy to sort out.
We've had almost the same thing happen as 'ethanryan' and that was 5yrs ago now, and know how frustrating the system is ( it's seems the fathers that want to give are penalized for the waste of space fathers that give nothing) try getting in touch with your local MP he should be able to help... good luck you'll bluddy need it
