why not try the lake district?not too far away from you so it wont cost to much to travel there and im sure you could find a relatively cheap bed and breakfast place to stay its really nice there as well.hope you have a nice time wherever you go....................................
I am biased, but what about Edinburgh? always a great place to visit - it's my home town, so i have never had the chance to see it from a visitors perspective, but there are plenty of places to stay, eat drink and shop!. Also a good city for just wandering about if you are not into all the cultural stuff. Try laterooms - and you could fly or train it up.
isnt that the bank holiday weekend? you may not want to leave it too late as im sure many people will book late breaks if weather forecast is good.
Penally Abbey in Penally, near Tenby, Pembrokeshire. They do B&B in the most romantic setting; fabulous but quiet restaurant; fantastic part of the world for a long weekend. It's where I come from, so if you go, I could tell you all the off-the-beaten-track beaches that the locals go to!! My brother's taken his wife there on all their anniversaries so far - 5 - and they always rave about it. (Quietly, though, so noone spreads the word too far!)
It depends if you prefer city or country. For a city break you could visit York or Chester or indeed Edinburgh, for a country break you could easily visit the Lake District or if you want to travel as far as South Wales have a look at http://www.oxwichbayhotel.co.uk/

Been up mount Snowdon in North Wales? Beautiful countryside, stay in Betws y coed, drive over the pass looking into the valley.Stunning......may even be as beautiful as you are as a couple...! At Betws you have lovely walks and waterfalls......just sit and breathe it!
If I could go anywhere for a long weekend in England, I think I'd go to Cornwall!
Just love Cornwall.
