high levels of GGT in the blood.
I know the levels should be between 6-42 but last Christmas mine were 2062 and I was admitted to hospital.
Since then I've had 2 MRCP scans and they are happy there are no stones in the bile duct.
Last week I thought I was looking a bit jaundice so asked my GP if I could have a blood test which she agreed to. I had it done on Monday.
This morning I got a phone call from the surgery asking me to come for another blood test and the GP saw me also, so I was able to ask why the blood tests were being repeated, and was told my GGT was 800+ and if the results from today come back as higher, I may have to go to the hospital.
My question is, why do my GGT levels go up so high?
I don't drink alcohol ever, and there are no stones, so what can cause it?
I did ask my GP and she just said probably some kind of liver damage, but what, how, why?
Just wish someone could explain it better. TIA.

While you're waiting for Sqad, this link might help a bit. It's from a reliable source, with a '.gov' (i.e. US government) web address, so it should be accurate and trustworthy:
https://medlineplus.gov/lab-tests/gamma-glutamyl-transferase-ggt-test/
dont you have fld?
GGT is a liver enzyme that resides in the cells of the liver and if it is raised in the blood it means that the liver cells have been damaged and the enzyme has spewed out into the blood stream.
The question being what has caused the liver damage?

The commonest causes today is Non Alcoholic Cirrhosis and this is a lifestyle disease similar to Type2 diabetes.
There are many other causes of which gall stones have been eliminated.

You will have further liver function tests and probably a liver biopsy.

Commonest things occur commonest and in your case my money would be on Non Alcohlic Liver Cirrhosis.
sounds like cirrhosis, you are not a drinker so it's possibly hemochromatosis or possibly Wilson's disease. Yellow skin is a symptom.
...do you have a brown ring around the iris?
Off-topic aside: While checking the authenticity of Medlineplus (Buenchico's link), I learnt it is funded by the US National Library of Medicine who's precursor (the Library of the Surgeon General's Office) from 1866 to 1887 was housed in Ford's Theatre after drama production there was stopped, following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

Amazing what you can find on the Net ;-)
Bloody hell TTT.......you are scraping the barrel.
what are you on about sqad? They are both possible causes of non alcoholic Cirrhosis.
Never knew TTT was a medical specialist.
TTT...agreed .but both, 500-1 outsiders.
I have seen one case in 50 years of medical practice.
As I have said before........commonest things occur commonest.
I have many talents Danny!

I'm pretty sure I've been tested for Hepatitis and Cirrhosis and was negative. I was told once I have NAFLD and an enlarged liver.
Could it be anything to do with that?
When you are told you may have a damaged liver, I don't really understand in what way is it damaged.
TTT I don't know if I have a brown ring around my iris as I have brown eyes.:-)
I really am dreading the results from today as my last time in hospital over Christmas was horrendous.
As I'm still under the liver specialist, why can't the GP speak to him about it?
There never seems to be communication these days.

Chris, I will have a look at your link even though I know Sqad wouldn't want me to.
Sqad
TTT may I tell you a story?

No point because TTT went to medical school before you so has probably already heard it
