With all the empty schools now and Government using hotels for beds and so on, could they not make use of schools that already have the services, electric, heating, water, toilets kitchens and so forth. The schools are in all local areas with doctors surgeries near by, so instead of doing what they had to do in China build places for beds, we already have the empty places. Whats your thoughts?

Are the schools empty?
I’d have thought not.

My sister’s primary opens tomorrow for 10 pupils.
schools have large open spaces, not bedrooms where patients can be isolated. schools don't have masses of bathrooms en suite. Surgeries shouldn't be dealing with people who need to be in hospitals. Schools will also be ebing used for the children of kep workers and the two shouldn't be mixed. Hotels will be easier to deep clen afterwards as they are used to doing it.
I thought most if not all schools were remaining open for the children of key workers.
My grandaughter is going in to school tomorrow. Both her parents are key workers as are many more.
Many schools will still be open for vulnerable children and those with parents in the emergency services.

I don't think they will open every school for 10 pupils, they've already said that.
how are they doing this "schools open for key workers' children" thing? Are they actually going to have the full staff in to teach all the subjects other kids will hope to pick up at home? Or is it to be more of a child-minding service so parents can continue working?
I understood it as mainly the latter jno.
A lot of the ones remaining are special needs so will require more teachers pro rata than usual classes need
I understand that teachers will be going into work on a rota basis.
My son is a teacher at secondary school and is at work tomorrow. His school is open for around 100 vulnerable pupils and children of key workers. Whether the teachers will work on a rota basis is not yet clear.
thanks all.
its been clearly said that the national curriculum won't be followed and the children won't be in classes as such. I gather that staffing will depend on what schools decide to do.

12.57 Patients are not in isolation in hospitals, also schools are easier to deep clean, hard surfaces, no carpets.
But following on from your thought teacake, university accommodation would work. Single en-suite rooms and no students there at the moment. The problem would be the extra staff needed
The teachers will also have to be making assessments and moderation exercises (presumably they'll be given an expected grade split per subject to work within), and there will be homeworking packs to issue and the provision of remote support. But overall workloads will be down and maybe some temporary contracts won't be renewed.
But as to the question, I don't think we'd want CV patients to be in close proximity to loads of children and teachers certainly wouldn't want it. There may be safeguarding issues too
my daughters school has carpets everywhere. it also open tomorrow, no uniform required - it' s more like a babysitting service

13.07 Yes for sure its still a staff problem, but the local surgeries do have their own nurses, I know its not a full proof idea, but it could get desperate in the coming weeks, and seeing what China had to do, like long lines of beds,. just thought I would put the idea out there, you came up may be with a second option.
It'll be interested to see how many parents who don't meet the key worker/vulnerable children criteria try to drop off their children and how the schools will deal with it
Definitely a “nice idea but ...”

Schools aren’t hospitals.
I can’t imagine how in earth it would work at our son’s school, even if it wasn’t for the probably
200+ pupils and teachers
