I'm only mid/late forties but am astonished by the number of my peers who are becoming grandparents.

An entire generation seems to have passed me by!

Apologies to the pedants, no question as such just feeling bewildered, doubt I'm alone.
isn't the average age to become grandparents in the late 50s?

Can't speak for the bonking age of the Eccles family.....youngest grandma that I have known amongst my friends (and living in Surrey) was 41 and the great-grandma was 63......the latter passed on relatively recently at the ripe age of 96....
My Gran was 60 when I was born and 66 when my sister (spawn of satan) was born!
There is a girl at work who became a mum 2 months after becoming a granny!! she is 34!!!
Not to worry eccles. I'm nearing 70, and grandparent hood is not in sight. :-((
My brother is coming up to 81...and his sons are only just getting married this year.
There's no set age is there? I was almost 50 when Grandson number one came along.
I always thought I'd be a young gran having had my first daughter at 19 but she kept me waiting until I was 52. My son kept me waiting until I was 62.
I keep in touch with people who I went to school with through FB, some of them have got grand children older than some of my own children.
I'm still way short of it, unless one of my teenage daughters has a surprise for me......Relatively old dad here though.
I'm same age as you Eccles and I have four grandchildren!! I actually can't believe it. I'm still young lol!!
im with sherradk. Most of my peers are on their grandchildren. One of my old school friends has a grandchild older than my daughter. Mind you she was pregnant at 13

Mrs B first married at 18, had a Daughter at 19, I met her in her 30's, she was a Grandma at 40 ;o)
My best friend became a nan a couple of months ago. She's a bit younger then me, but had her son when she was 18, whereas I had my first child at 31. On the whole though, most of my friends had kids later on so not many grandparents about, even the girls I went to school with have kids the same age as mine, or younger.
To my shock, I am about to become a great-grandma! Mr. J2's grandson (mine as well, of course, but Mr. J2 is a few years older than I) -I am 67 and my eldest grandchild is 11. I feel about 40 (max). Just ride it and keep on truckin!
I'm 43- I actually had to work that out... was a nan at 41. One of my friends is just having her first baby this year.
I thought grandparent hood had passed me by when my daughter had a hysterectomy at 30.
Lo and behold, she adopted a 12wk old baby girl last year... My life has changed immeasurably for the better:-)

I think I'm going through the phase I went through some years ago, when I was astonished that my peers were becoming parents!
You're all a bunch of wimps. When I was 11 years old I had 8 younger brothers and sisters. I was teaching them to walk and talk, feed themselves, to read and write, dress themselves, and providing entertainment. Get over yourselves. :))
I'm 66 and have 12 Grandchildren! The eldest is 15.
I hear the average age of a grandmother in Essex is 34 ;-)
"mid/late forties"????

Ruddy 'eck! You're really over the hill!

;-)
My mum is 66 and has 6 grand kids. The eldest is 26.

What makes me feel old is looking for comfy clothes :-)
