Absolutely horrified that children are still being used as carers for their families. I knew that it used to happen but was sickened to find that nothing much has changed over the the past 10 years. Giving the children somewhere to relax? When do they have the time? Nursing, cooking, cleaning, education? Fun? Enjoyment? Not having to be responsible? Divert money from shirkers to pay for carers to allow these children a life.
Daisy I feel the same. It is disgusting in this day and age. They are being used as slave labour - they do it because they want to and love their families and they are being taken advantage of by the state.
Those little children of 8 years old in that situation really upset me.
They don't have the ability or knowledge to complain and know no difference. It is appalling.
I didn't see the programme, but I can see how it happens - one of my relatives in her forties has progressive MS, and her young daughter does a huge amount for her (but so does her husband). Several carers go in daily but the youngster still gets very involved. She still manages to entertain herself, thankfully.
boxtops, unfortunately many children in this situation do not have a dad or mum who will be helping, or grandparents. Great that other people try to help but if they are children it should not be their responsibility.
I think it is utterly disgraceful too. But what can we do about it? I am going to write to my MP but I don't know whether it will do any good. Do they notice one letter amongst the thousands they must receive? I can't think of anything else which will help.
