so sad....even though it was 19 years ago it is still fresh in the public domaine and I don't think opinion has changed in this time...

I lived in Liverpool at the time and had a year old daughter. It was so tragic.
Gosh - I still remember how appalled everyone was at the time. It must be very hard for his family still. I wonder if the lads who did it, now living with new identities, realise the date?
one of them's back inside, isn't he. boxtops? I don't know if he keeps his new identity in jail.

One of the things that struck me - this isn't a dig at anyone - is how the McCanns were pilloried for not keeping an eye on Madeleine, whereas I don't recall anyone criticising Mrs Bulger for letting James out of her sight. I'm not sure how or why the public response was so different.
jno...because James and his Mother were in a shop. The Mcganns went out for a meal choosing to leave their children behind.
I suppose so, ummmm. But I wouldn't have taken my eye off jno jnr for a minute in a shop, whereas I'd have felt much safer leaving him asleep in the house (and occasionally did while I went to the corner for some bread). I always think of strangers as being more of a risk than being on your own, if you see what I mean.
I know exactly what you mean. But it's so easy to take your eye off a child...it take two hands to get your purse out.

I lost my youngest in MK (very briefly)!! Luckily he did what I told him to do...stand in the nearest shop doorway and start screaming...
It is hard to believe it is 19 years ago. May he rest in peace and the family find comfort.
sensible of you, I should have done the same (though fortunately it was never needed). We did keep jno jnr on a leash when very young (one of those rubber ones that curl up like an old phone cord), even I think when he was Jamie's age, though not much older.

After Jamie was murdered you couldn't buy any kind of reins for children in any of the shops in Liverpool. My sister in law had to send some up from Ipswich. Hope his killers will be tortured and worried all their lives. They will have to watch their backs forever.
There have been quite a few cases where children have been snatched from their beds by strangers.

It's all very sad.
Excuse me for butting in but could I nudge hc to have a look at my reply to him on the Protecting our Children thread in Media & TV.

And RIP Jamie, I often think of him.
