Dissolvable stitches from C section

its 4 weeks later and there is two dried up strings of stitches like aloop of it on the outside of my scar and a knot at the end but the loop in the middle scares me, is it normal how wil it dissolve if its not inside will they come open? my midwife said it will dissolve but iv been told that they cant unless there inside! :S

it should of come out after 4 weeks i would book an appointment with your g.p and tell him how long they have been in and they should easily removethem there and then

The general guide given with regard to Caesarean Section stitches is to allow six weeks for them to dissolve and disappear (yes, they can still dissolve and 'drop off' if they are external) so you may still have a couple of weeks to go.

However, if you have any redness, puffiness or discharge around the wound site then you may have an infection and the stitches would need removing.

If you are stil under your midwife and she's happy with the way they're looking then it's best to wait and see. Your midwife will be able to tell if the wound isn't healing as it should.
