I'm suffering with really bad heartburn but I have a suspicion that it's drinking water that's causing it (and obviously being pregnant!). Does anyone know if it's possible for water to cause heartburn? I've got a sore throat and hoarse voice now and I'm worried that it's been caused by the heartburn so don't want it to get any worse! Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. I ended up going to the doc and getting a bottle of peptac. How far along are you? I'm 32 weeks and the doc said it might be the cartralidge which hold the rib cage together stretching because of the lack of room for the baby. It gets really sore at times but i feel the bottle of peptac helps.
Hi feebal. I suffered terrible heartburn when I was pregnant with my son. Water seemed to agrivate the problem for me too. I found that milk helped a bit. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Hi feebal, congratulations and how many weeks are you? I cant see as the water would give you heartburn. Only thing I can think of is that by drinking water you are diluting the stomach acid and making it easier for gases etc to rise.

Have you tried anything to combat the heartburn, say, gaviscon, milk (not sure if that is good idea as it may curdle). Heartburn is common in pregnancy, when do you get it, all the time or in the mornings?
Hi ILS, how are you keeping? Hoping all is well with you and baby.

I'm 29 weeks. I've got some Gaviscon from the doc (which works for about half an hour!) and have been drinking milk. I seem to get heart burn all day, every day but have had none at all today and haven't drunk any water (other than in squash) so just wondered if there was a connection as I normally drink LOADS of water...
Hi warpig. I'm 32 weeks now and the levels are creeping up slowly again. Hopefully they will take me in early as the lack of sleep is doing nothing for me. Had a growth scan last week and baby is about 4lbs 10oz. So seems to be ok for now.
There could be something in what you say feebal, if it works then it works! Pregnancy is not the greatest time for some so you need to take whatever actions seem necessary.

I only had heartburn in the mornings so I elevated myself with pillows at night which seemed to help, have tried Gaviscon myself and personally it made me want to puke so dont know why I am suggestiing it to you!!!!!!

Hope you find something to ease it 'tho.

warpig xx
ILS that is great news, gald you and baby are doing well as was thinking about you both.

4lb 10oz, bl00dy good weight for 32 weeks! the piglet was much the same at her/my growth scan. Chin up my darling, all will be ok.

Much love
warpig & piglet xx
Hi feebal, if yu choose to cut out the water if you feel that whats causing the heartburn then please make sure you keep up your fluids in other ways. Ideally you should be drinking 2-3 litres a day. I suffered terribly from heartburn, moreso with my 2nd pregnancy. I was precribed gaviscon advanced as I found gaviscon (original and double action) to be useless. I also would have to keep myself propped up during the night as laying down would immediately start it off. Another thing is to little and often. Instead of three main meals, try 5 little meals.

ILS, good luck with your final weeks, although I dont think they will take you in early unless baby was in any distress. They were quite happy to let me keep going on 3-4 hours sleep a night, and thats with a 7 yr old to look after too! The only good thing about it was that it prepared me for the sleepless nights! lol Even seeing to a baby 2-3 times a night, I was getting more sleep than I was when I was pregnant!
2 words - McDonalds milkshakes!

They were only thing to settle my heartburn for any decent period of time.

Of course i could only have them occasionally so i had a bottle of gaviscon by the bed, rennies in the kitchen and rennie dual relief and gaviscon tablets in my handbag!

The gaviscon tablets worked the best for me out of those

the one thing you can be sure of though is that the instant baby is born the heartburn disappears

Thanks guys! I've stayed off the water again today and again no heartburn so think I've def found the cause. I'll try and make sure I keep my fluids up. I probably didn't do as well today as I normally do but will go and have a drink now and make much more of an effort tomorrow :)
How's the heartburn? My bump has dropped so haven't had heartburn for about a week. Bliss!
I'm sure its not water thats giving you heart burn, I suffer alot with heart burn when pregnant and the best thing to have is almonds, dont stop drinking water, try to have smaller meals little but often and not to soon before bed. Cut out coffee, fried foods, peppermint, tomato products, citrus juices. These will all help but if you still dont feel better your doctor will give you something for it.

The heartburn has now completely disappeared and the only thing I've given up is water so there must be something in it. I'm still drinking plenty of fluids but drinking lots of fruit juice and squash. Thanks for all the advice :)
