I was wondering can any one suggest a remedy that does not involve taking antacid pills. I am taking anti-inflamatories for a back problem and cannot take indigestion and heartburn treatment but I have really bad acid.
Is there any thing else I can take just to get me through the night.
Thanks in advance.

Surprisingly, a glass of brandy and ginger ale helps.

thats sounds lovely but I haven't got either and my pain killers wouldn't like it.
Thanks anyway.
Do you drink alcohol? Do you smoke?

Both can cause heartburn.

nope don't do either.
I am certain it is down to the anti inflamatry tablets I have for my back but I can't stop talking them or I won't be able to walk properly.
I'm not sure. I think peppermint helps. Have you tried a glass of milk. My OH has an ulcer and he always drinks milk if he thinks it's going to play up.
Milk of Magnesia works well for me but maybe you cant take it?

Ask your Dr if he/she can suggest something that you can take that might work.

ok thanks Ummmmm I just had some. It's taken away the immediat pain but acid is still coming.
I think I'll have to stop the pills. It might be the only way to stop the heart burn.
He takes gulps of milk then sips on it. It's like the milk keeps it down.

Go to your chemist...they will advise. I know it's a horrible thing to have. I get it but only when I drink alcohol.....I like alcohol :-(
Which anti inflammatories are you taking?
I was prescribed diclofenac and the gave me acid reflux disease. My GP prescribed me a tablet called Omeprazole and I only need to use it when I get a flare up now. I had to stop taking the anti inflammatories though.

You can take an antacid when on anti inflammatory tablets by the way, just not at the same time, you have to alternate the two...leave at least an hour between taking each.

I'm on Diclofenac sodium. I have had another diclofenac before. it wasn't this one.
I can't take Naproxen either.
I had the milk last night but it didn't subside until this morning.
It's a real pain that the thing thats stop the pain is causing other sorts of pain.
Ummmm the only time my dad ever got heartburn was when he had a drink before Sunday lunch.
Other than these pills the only thing that gives me heartburn is Marmite and I love it.
It does say in the leaflet that came with them to stop taking them if I get heartburn and talk to the DR again so I guess I will be doing that.
Thank you all very much for your help.
tiger...go back to your GP, as you need to come of NSAID's if at all possible and an alternative is needed.
