I had a chinese takeaway which consisted of crispy duck with pancakes, veg spring rolls and chips for dinner tonight and now I feel terribly guilty as we only had a takeaway nearly 2 weeks ago and when we had that one it was the 3rd in the space of 2 or 3 weeks. We didn't have this many before I was pregnant!!
I thought it'd be easy to eat a perfectly balanced diet throughout pregnancy but I give in to temptation far too easily. I do eat fruit and veg (prob not enough) daily and take pregnancy vit suppliments but I know for a fact that I eat too much cheese and have atleast 1 tracker bar a day with my lunch!
One thing I will say is I've never smoked and rarely drank alcohol before pregnancy and haven't had any since being preggers.
My appetite has been absolutely massive. For breakfast every morning I have atleast 1 pint of milk with Ready Brek and quite a bit of sugar and in the evening I have atleast 3 Shredded Wheat with not much sugar! Is this really bad?
I'm ready for it, give me a good ticking off, I deserve it : (

please don't worry, you are doing nothing that will harm your baby. Hell I have 1-2 takeaways per week and I am not pregnant! You may put on weight but better to be happy as long as you don't go mad!
twigwif is right!! You shoulnt worry at all!! Just indulge you have the excuse!!! If you do put weight on you can always lose it later when the baby has arrived, you have gotten used to your routine and you can then have a little more time to spend on yourself!! Ive been eating loads lately and im not pregnant!! Ive been really ill and lost my appetite, now its come back with a vengence. I think my body is making up for lost nutrition!! Honestly yesterday I had for breakfast 2 toast with mackrel, orange juice. Crisps, chocolate and two backon sandwiches for lunch. Later on I had 3 popadums with lime pickle, han sandwich. then I had a huge shicken dinner with jam pudding and custard after. THEN I finished off the popadums and lime pickle and ate loads of sweets!!! I really have started puttin on a few pounds but im not worried, I know once the new year comes in and the festivities are over (hopefully by then my stupid appetite would have returned back to normal) I can concentrate on eating healthier!!!

Thanks to you both. I'm going to try my utmost to keep the takeaways to a minimum for atleast the remainder of the pregnancy, but your totally right: as long as I don't go too mad on other indulgences.
Now, poppadums with lime pickle, now there's a thought, sounds yummy!!
Morning Mountainboo, you're not the only one who is eating truck loads! I have a confession that I hope makes you feel better about overindulging - Between Friday evening and Sunday evening I overdid it a bit on puds and cakes and managed to scoff 2 cream doughnuts, 3 jam doughnuts, 2 raspberry panna cotta, 2 mince pies and a peice of bannoffee cheesecake, plus half a dozen caddburys caramel tree decorations. My mum said the baby will be high as a kite on the sugar but I pointed out that there is a lot of calcium in cream :-) Funnily enough though the baby does seem to be either having a party or attempting to kick his way out since Sunday morning!

Other than that, I have been pretty good but my diet was good before I fell pregnant anyway so it hasn't been a problem to maintain - I get at least my five portions of fruit and veg a day (probably around 7 most days), and make sure I get enough calcium. To get my five a day I eat most of them first thing in the morning, so I don't know if this might help you or not, but I make a smoothie with berries (you can buy frozen from the supermarket) and a banana and yoghurt and honey, a glass of juice then a handful of raisins and a banana, and already you have had 2 of your calcium portions for the day and 5 of your fruit and veg before you have even thought about all those lovely snacks and lunch and dinner, then more snacks...... lol

My hubby thinks it hilariouis that I literally don't stop eating from when I wake to when I sleep. We went out for a meal with some friends on Saturday night, I had three courses, and it was salmon pasta, so it was quite heavy, but still I got home and made myself some toast and had a mince pie and a cup of tea. It's not even 8am and already I have had a banana, a glass of juice, a handful of raisins, a Muller rice and a smoothie! I can't stop!
P.S. I meant milke not honey with the smoothie, but sometimes I put honey in too
compared to me your diet is perfectly healthy lol

Baby takes everything it needs from your multivits and gets first pick basically of all the healthy stuff you eat. Anything thats left is used by your body.

I have a friend who has such severe morning sickness and reflux that she could only keep down toast and coffee. She gave birth at full term to a perfect little girl.

Be aware of what youre eating and try and eat sensibly but down be so hard on yourself if you slip.

Cheers nat and red. I will try the smoothie thing. I definately get enough calcium as I get through atleast a pint and a half every day.
The only thing I would warn against in the takeaways is the amount of MSG that it is in them - it is not advisable to have that while pregnant. Having said that, if you didn't have any of the stuff that you are not allowed, your diet would be pretty limited! I had good advise form my doctor about eating unadvised foods - he said that the chances of any of the things you are not supposed to have, like runny eggs and pate and mayonaise, harming your baby were remote, but that if you did happen to have a baby with health issues, and you had eaten these things, you would blame yourself even though the two things were totally unrelated.

I also ended up with borderline gestational diabetes after eating excessive amounts of Magnums and the like as it was hot and they always seemed to be on buy one pack get one free........and oh so tasty! I would eat one, then fancy another, after I had eaten two, I would worry that my other half would realise I had eaten two, so I would eat the third so that the box was gone. That would then leave me free to eat another and leave 2 in the remaining box!!!!

Good luck, and the amount of takeaway you are having doesn't seem excessive to me if you are eating a good diet at other times. It is hard to be good when you are hungry and tired all the time.

well said annie. Thankfully I'm not a big fan of magnum's. Ready Brek on the other hand, I could eat bowl after bowl of that.
Well that puts my eating habits to shame! lol Im tucking into a veggie burger as we speak (or as I type) The only healthy thing I have had today was an egg sandwich on brown bread for my lunch (I wont add I followed it with a mars bar)
Since Im so sore and tired now come dinner time, Im afraid take aways have become a regular thing for me. My daughter has school dinners so I have only needed to give her her tea in the evenings, then have a take away myself when shes gone to bed. Of course, now schools finished for the holidays, thats going to have to stop! lol
I was pretty much the same when i was pregnant i'm ashamed to say i ate at least 3 chicken kebabs from our takeway a week, i just craved them so bad, also couldnt stop eating mccoys steak crisps even though every time i ate them i threw up! still had at least 2 bags a day, i wouldve killed for them! I wouldnt worry too much, although i weighed 3 stone more after i had her and 5 yrs later still weigh about 1 half- 2 stone more, although i'm still not big & completely happy, so just beware of that!
i was addicted to sausage and egg McMuffins with hash browns when pregnant with little CRX.
