well i am planning a family now (and hope it happens soon). i have been reading http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rough-Guide-Pregnancy- Birth/dp/1858287650 it's really fun to read as its written by a first time mum, and takes you through what to expect week by week. it will tell you what size the baby will be week by week, and explains all the jargon that comes with pregnancy. it also suggests that first time mums shouldn't be given lots of books as they sometimes contradict each other! (old books are a no - no, as they can be very dated with the medical side of things).

Thanks hotpink that is exactly what I was looking for , have ordered it just now.

good luck with your planning!

Hi Warpig

It's not a book, but for a really quick day to day guide, the BBC website has a pregnancy calendar where you put in your due date or date conceived and it tells you how big baby to be is etc and gives links to other relevant pages

Baby Picky is coming up for 5 months now and I used it everyday when I was pregnant and thought it was ace. Hope you find it useful

Love Picky x

Wow, thanks for the link Picky, just checked it out and its all rather scary, yikes! Its early days for me, but this will be my first child (will be 40 in October) and am bricking myself, although I am also very happy and excited. I think maybe because I am older I am thinking about things more rather than just accepting nature at its best.

No doubt I will be in this topic quite regularly from now on, just hope its one piglet and not a litter!!!!!

many thanks

congratulations warpig!

im always recommending the ivillage messageboards but I really do think they are a great source of help and info. There will be a board purely for mums due in your month as well as more specialised boards. http://www.ivillage.co.uk/pregnancyandbaby/boa rds/0,,,00.html

Your midwife will also give you the NHS pregnancy book which I found very good, it also gives you week by week reports on whats happeneing with baby.

Thanks Red but keep schtoom for now, early days!

One question though have done test and is positive but will wait a week and do another one just to be sure but when should I go to GP, I am thinking about 7-8 weeks, am apparently 5 week so far, but am so naive about this, am really excited but a little scared. Mrwarpig is walking around like the cat that has got the cream!!!
call your GP surgery and ask what their procedure is. Mine just said i had to fill in a form and wait for a booking in appt at 8 weeks or so. That was it. Do another test if you want but they dont do them at docs, they just seem to take your word for it

Of course youre a little scared, its perfectly natural believe me. Try to watch what you can and cant eat and take it easy for the first few weeks until you get further advice.

try the boards on ivillage, there will be mums of your age on there too, even first time mums.

will keep it quiet

Miriam Stoppard does one that is really useful, The New Pregnancy and Birth Book. I highly recommend it.
I used to love looking at the Pampers pregnancy calendar when I was pregnant, it was great!!!! I loved being pregnant, enjoy it!xxx

Good luck!!

Brilliant psychick, we can laugh and cry together!
only you have the 24 hour morning sickness from now on! lol
Question Author
Actually feel ok for nearly all of the time, just occasionally I get this 'rising' feeling, but am able to control it, touch wood. Boobs really sore though, and incredibly tired, just fall asleep in the afternoon for no good reason, not like I am busy or anything, just sitting on my backside!
I have a 6 yr old to run around after plus i work part time. Other than that.... I nap the rest of the time! lol

I have discovered pickled onion space raiders are great for morning sickness!!
