Not sure if this is right part to post this question but does anyone know how I can go about being tested to see if I am able to have children or not? I was pregnant once when I was 17 then was on the contracpetive injection for 5 years. Came off it four years ago and even though I am having periods now my ex and I tried for a baby (obviously not using any contraception) but nothing happened. He has four other children so I am thinking it might have been me. I am twenty seven and really would like to know one way or the other.

i think you can buy a test like a pregnancy test which measures your fertility
The best thing is to get your GP involved. You will then get reffered to a gynae consultant who will perform tests, including bloods for hormone levels and scans of the uterus. They can then tell you with great accuracy whether there is any fertility problems, and would advise on the best course of action and treatment to help you conceive.
Best of luck! x

Everytime I mention fertility tests to my doctor he tries to change the subject. I am only 27 and have just recently got together with somebody and am nowhere at all near jointly considering heaving kids it is just I have tried previously I have tried and all I want to know is whether I can or not so I know one way or the other. Thanks both of you for the advice you have given xx

GP's wont refer anyone for testing unless they are trying to conceive and haven't been able to for at least a year. If you are telling him you only want testing for your own peace of mind, he wont bother referring you. Home fertility tests mentioned by suzanneb and gln121 are worth a try for now, but dont expect too much from them. they cant give you all the answers. you have been pregnant before so you know it is possible so try not to worry as this wouldnt do your hormones or body any good. my advice would be to forget about your fertility issues for now and just have a good time with your new man. if in the near future children are discussed, go back to your GP and tell him you've been trying for over a year, this will start the process of fertility investigations. try not to worry! all the best xx
