I bought a cough medicine off the shelf for my 3 year old and its directions say doseage for 1 year and up.

Its the boots own non drowsy dry cough medicine.

It seems to be doing the trick.

thank you! I havent tried boots because after 3 refusals at other chemists i assummed that it might be the same everywhere else. I iwll definately give them a try
The cough medicine is useless as has been proven, I would recommend giving her Medised which will give pain releif and should help her sleep. Use some Karvol or Olbas oil in her bedroom and tip the end of her bed up so that her head is higher than her feet - I used to stick a folded blanket or pillow under the cot matress.

Hopefully that will help everybody get a good sleep!
annie, have you heard about the medicines that they are saying are not effective for young children, medised is one of them.
I still have some and I find it works a treat, but im sure if they are still selling it for under 5s
should read Im NOT sure lol
hello early bird just to say honey is the main base for kid,s cough medecine i found honey and lemon the best for kid,s or a juice the child prefers with the honey it worked for me father of 7 thank you happy st pat,s day,,,,,,,,from kitt
Poor you and poor baby :o(
As already mentioned, the Comission on Human Medicines state that there is little evidence to suggest giving any products for cougs and colds. Their advice is to give warm honey and lemon for a cough and giving paracetamol and / or ibuprofen

Hi Red - not sure about that, my kids are older than that now - I was more thinking from the paracetemol point of view with the medised. calpol always made my eldest a bit hyper and the medised tended to have the opposite effect, so I never use calpol at night, even now that he is 8!
they have all worked with my 2 from the age thats recommended when theyve had temps and bad colds, to relieve pain.

I will continue to use them for mine when needed,
take her straight to the doctors
Aw poor little thing. Have you tried snufflebaby (Vicks vaporub for babies) apparently if you massage it into baby's feet then put onsocks for some reason (currently being researched) it helps reduce symptoms of cough and cold. We tried it on my little boy and although it didn't cure the cough it certainly seemed to ease it. Also I wet a flannel drop some olbas oil on it then place over radiator in his room - it stinks but seems to aid breathing. Hope this helps x
I have a two year old and a 9 month old and i find if i rub Vaporub into their back and chest and put a bowl of steaming water in their room near to them it works a treat. Think sometimes the dry air in the bedroom aggrevates their throats. I havent found a cough medicine that works yet and i find Medised gives my 2 a 'hangover' because in the morning they are really grumpy after taking it!! lol!! x
