It was to do with the amount of pesticides used on grapes, apples and peaches. It was felt that they wern`t safe limits for children under five.
Buy organic one like we do , no harm done then:)
you should cut them in half until theyare quite old, as they pose a choking risk
they are quite a large choking risk as Boobesque says; it is particularly the skin which children choke on. The same is true for tomatoes and apples etc etc.

I always peeled my children's grapes until they were about 3 or 4. They didn't have many because, frankly, peeling grapes is not really one of the things in my skill set and brings out the worst in me. I'm not good with boring, monotonous tasks.

just be very careful. I did see a child choking on tomato skin once and it was awful, she ended up having to go to hospital as she lost consciousness.

many thanks for all your replies
Just to add to this ... I heard from a doctor that a grape is the perfect fit for lodging and sticking in a child's throat. The best way to cut the grape is length ways, so that it remains long and thin rather that across the waist, where it would remain 'throat sized!'
As Le Chat says..The shape of the grape is very dangerous.A toddler of 17 months, choked to death in a Feltham Tescos store, last year.He was given the grape while waiting at the checkout, and it got lodged at the back of his throat.
