As expected and feared by most it has been confirmed that Mark Cavendish is out of the TdF after yesterday's dramatic crash. He will doubtless be devastated.
Good luck to the rest, it's going to be a very tough day in the saddle from York to Sheffield today.

Cavendish out of Tour after crash http://bbc.in/VuiVVE
Can't say I'm surprised, he came down with a hell of a thump! :-(
There's many more crashes to come, I'm sorry to say. There's lots of complaints about today's stage...and that's just the climbs!
As a new comer to the T de. F, I'm trying my hardest to follow progress this year. So question ..... Was Cavendish replaced in Team Sky today and if so by whom . If not how can the team gain necessary points if they are a man down?

Maydup,
Cav now rides for Omega-Pharma Quick Step and no, he doesn't get replaced. Each team starts with 9 riders, those who drop out are not replaced, the team has to continue and manage without them.
Thanks Chill- enjoyed it today and just beginning to understand it too!

Have watched a bit of it. I'm a keen cyclist (MTB) so finding it quite hard to follow as its very tactical. Seems only worth watching the final 1k!
Thanks for the vids chilldoubt, i'm getting there. I'm at work and so missing the whole thing today but I have recorded it and will see if i can follow it by watching at my own pace later tonight!
