I am apealing to older Mums and grans out there for some advice, why is it now a bad idea to make up a couple of feeds to keep in the fridge for later, also for feeds to be kept for more than two hours eg at night to be warmed when the baby wants it ? i used to take a feed to bed with me along with a flask of hot water so that if the baby woke the feed could be ready in a minute or two, my older grandchildren had bottle warmers and if we took a baby out for the day we took several made up and asked for a jug of hot water in a cafe to warm them, all my children thrived on this way of doing it also all my older grandchildren, but now the younger one is msde to wait for ages for his feed as it has to cool down from boiling, even with iced water it takes ages, poor little soul gets so upset each time.
I've never heard that this practice was bad. I used to make up a day's supply and put them in the fridge. It's fresh milk you are making up and a bottle of cow's milk lasts for at least three days in the fridge.
But then it would still be too hot for the baby to drink straightaway, as the water has to be hot enough to mix with the powdered milk properly Tinkerbell.
My friend has like 4 bottles all just the cool boiled water sitting with the sterilized lids covered, heats up the water, adds a scoop of milk and shakes! Easy!!
If i "borrow" the child for the day i get handed the bottle and the milk powder amongst a whole other 3bags of stuff hahah x
It's the guidelines due to the fact that a tin of formula is not sterile and cold water may not kqill any bugs in it. I used to boil some water and then add powder and the balance of cold water once mixed. I did also take warm water bottles out with me and add powder when needed.
I was also told these new guidelines but if it was not convenient I chose to ignore them and my baby never came to any harm over it. Nor did his sister who is now 7. I made all of hers the night before, stored them in the fridge and warmed up when needed. With my second I followed 'the rules' when possible but on a night I would take to bed 2 or 3 bottles that had been previously made up and cooled in fridge and store in a cool bag. Then in the middle of the night all that needed to be done was warm them in the warmer, simple! I would do what you want to do and remember that guidelines are just that - there to guide you its not the law.
im 26, i used to make madams feeds up in advance kept them in the fridge till needed, then nuked them in the microwave. When out i took a flask of warm water and the powder in the bottles and made as needed.
Mi had only bad excema and a hospital acquired infection, and apart from that shes thrived and a very keen foody.
