As above, are you a nosy neighbour?

I've just spent half an hour glaring at the people next door trying to reverse a motorhome onto their drive. It got to the point where I didn't actually know what I was looking at, just being nosy.

Do you know your neighbours?

I don't really. I know a couple, like the little old dear a few doors down, who reminds me so much of my departed Nan that I grab every opportunity to speak to her, and the odd couple next door who's cat I am plotting to kill.

I used to live on a main road. Well, the main road to the sea front anyway, and I knew them all. I kind of miss that. Standing outside in the morning, in your Pj's, waving the kids off to school and saying hello to the other Mothers doing the same. Friendliness. There doesn't seem to be any around here.

No I'm not nosy, I am friendly though. We live in a very remote farming hamlet and everyone knows everything about everyone even before they've done it, so when we moved in we were like the local freak show :) xx
''and the odd couple next door''

And you think your neighbours are odd:

''It got to the point where I didn't actually know what I was looking at''

No, not nosy but if there's a commotion going on outside it's only human nature to look.

I know quite a few people in my street but I knew them before I moved here. Going to the corner shop is sometimes like a school reunion.
Yes, it's the same for me Sharingan. Nice though!
To see my neighbours I would have to hang precariously out over the balcony.

Although I think the biggest risk would be getting dumped on by the seagulls who quite often sit on the edge of the balconies.

Lol @ "the local freak show". Not sure what you mean by that, but it still made me laugh :)

Snags, d'you know when you kind of get 'stuck', like your eyes are staring into space and you can't break from it? That's what it was like.

I purposely put my sofa in the window when I moved in, so it would give me direct access to nosing.
Unfortunately, not much goes on here. You get the odd child falling off their bike, but that's about it.

No not nosy - but i would look if that was going on - the same way I stop mowing the back lawn to gawp over my gate at an inexperienced narrow-boat user trying to negoiate the turning bain just above our property. If you know what you are doing, it can be a three-point-turn, but more often, it is a 97-point turn with much bumping and cursing!

We know our neighbours both sides, and we always have a chat, and do the usual taking in parcels etc.,, and for one side i feed their cats if they go away.
Nothing happens here either. The last time I was looking out the window was watching the car across the road trying to get out in the snow. I got bored in the end.

Andy, "gawping" means you are definitely a nosy neighbour :)

There used to be a really nice man next door to me, who I would regularly chat to. In fact, I went round there on New Years Eve one year. He was really friendly.
unfortunately, he moved and was replaced by some random Polish dude. I've tried to make conversation, over the garden fence, but he just looks at me and does this nervous smile. Weirdo.
We have Polish next door to us. They are nice and polite. Rarely see them though as they seem to work 7 days a week.
not nosy just curious it's amazing how my windows need cleaning if any thing is going on outside lol

Yeah, he works all the time. It's very rare that I see him actually.
I think he's a nurse. Well, he has a nurses uniform (a male one) anyway.
I do like the poles. my kids are outnumbered by them at the school, but the parents are always very nice. I find them more chatty that the English parents. not as standoffish.
We know our neighbours but I don't think we are nosy, we do have a very nosy neighbour a few hundred yards away, an old biddy that will come knocking on your door for info or to see what is going on, we have nothing to do with her, nosy thing!!
i try not to be, many are just horrible, messy and loud...
I get on well with both my immediate neighbours and got to know fairly well the others on our block.

During nicer days, all our kids play out together on the back street and in each others houses, i love it, it means at any one time there's always an adult supervising the kids.

Why are you plotting to kill a cat? :-(
Question Author
Lol. I love how you're all saying "I'm not a nosy neighbour.... BUT...."
Just face it, you are nosy.

That's what it was like when we were kids. We had a lane behind our house that all the kids used to play in. Couldn't do it these days though.

I'm plotting to kill the cat because I am sick to death of having to clean up it's Sugar from my lawn, and having to tell the kids they can't out to play in the garden until I've been out first and checked it.
No, I don't give a monkeys what they do unless it directly effects me in some way.
