If they are anything like the midges where I live and more so if they are Scottish ones then I recommend nothing less than a full Nuclear/Biological/ Chemical Protection suit before starting your hedge cutting...........right little bu99ers they are :-((

Prevention is better than cure.

I wish I knew, they seem to be doubly vicious this year, everyone I talk to has been bitten. I had repellent on yesterday and I've got a bite with inflammation that's now 4" in diameter.
Napalm
My friend uses something from "? Calling".Is it allowed to say what it is on this site?? Others have told me it's very effective.

q...where do I get it and what is it's full name ?
Skin so soft from Avon.
If you have any Yarrow growing near you, just rub the flowers on your skin. I find it works.

I bought some wipes from L'Occitane that were impregnated with lavendar oil, can't remember if they worked though.

Citronella is another natural treatment that is recommended.
Traci66-That's it.Didn't know if "advertising" was allowed. I bought it when I was going on holiday but didn't see a single midge!

tried the Avon thing..did nothing..but had nice soft skin with bites !!!...don't know about the yarrow stuff will have a look around...or maybe just get oh to cut it in future !
roll around in mud so you are completely covered and wait till it dries.
Hi Murray, I'm really really sorry to hear that!
I bought the 150 ml size and the handbag size from an Avon rep-much cheaper than sending for it. It has a nice smell-maybe a man wouldn't appreciate it though!
There was a theory that vitamin b1 tablets 100mg day gives off smell bugs dont like (we dont smell it), but I dont know if that works, read it in paper
dig the bleedin stuff up
Have you tried Shoo?
Question Author
Albs do you mean telling them to shoo.lol...or is this a product ?
Avon stuff smells like toilet cleaner. It is said to work very well and the SAS use it in hot climes, but I really don't fancy walking around smelling like a clean loo!!
I find that the Avon stuff works pretty well.
It is a product. (I've got me seioius brain-cell in gear, it's the heat)
Small plastic bottle, greenish coloured liquid. I don't know if they still make it, but normally available from fishing tackle shops.
Well, it used to be, haven't bought any for years.
