Hi there

I probably have the terminology incorrect but where can I find info - or the relevant website - where I can apply to put a 'charge' (think thats the word) on a house. This prevents the house from being sold without me being informed first.

Cheers

Ali

probably at a lawyers, as a legal document will need to be drawn up
The terminology is correct.

At the Land Registry.

You would have to prove grounds first though - at least I hope you would. A solicitor would ease the process for you - at a cost.

you can't just put a charge on a house, you need the owner to agree, this is what mortgage lenders do. On th eother hand you can get a charge if you can demonstrate to a court that debt is owed but even then you cannot force sale.
sorry what I mean to say was you cannot prevent or force a sale but you can get paid when it is sold if you are on the charge register and there is equity left after paying others ahead of you in the charge resgister.
You can check to see what charges are already in existence at the Land Registry for a fee of £3.00.
To register a charge against a property in respect of a debt owed to you, you will need a Court Order.
