Can you lose your job if you are on probation but have a serious accident resulting in you temporarily unable to use your legs? Is it normal they would have Occupational therapists out to see you?

Possibly, but more info required. Did this accident happen at work?
I am an occupational therapist (OT) - I dont know your circumstances fully, but it would be good practice for a visIt to be recommended by an OT .
He/she would work with you to establish the nature of your injury and how it affects your ability to carry out activities, including personal and work, and can provide advice on various issues.
If you are on probation I assume you are in your first 12 months of service? If so, then your employer can dismiss you for any reason (they don't actually have to give a reason) so long as its not, pregnancy related, discriminatory etc.

It's not clear from your post whether your accident would be considered a disability but it may be depending on the circumstances.

It would be normal for an occupational therapist to be sent out to someone on long term sick leave.
