Paypal accepts card payments (credit card and debit cards) from your buyers and puts the money (less fees) in to your PayPal account.

It can take up to 10 days to transfer the money from your PayPal to your bank account.

Usually payments made to you are instant, but not always.

For every payment the fees are 20p plus 3.4%. So for a payment of 100 you pay 3.60 in PayPal fees. There is no charge to the buyer.

I would not buy anything on eBay unless they accepted PayPal.

You can have a free PayPal account, but that does not allow for card payments.

I'm one of the unlucky ones who had a bad experience with paypal. I sold an expensive item on Ebay and received payment by paypal. I posted the item off and as usual I obtained proof of posting. Six MONTHS later the money was taken back out of my account by paypal. They said the buyer had claimed her credit card had been misused (not stolen, simply misused) by someone else. To add insult to injury, she also claimed she had never received the goods. A few days before paypal robbed me, I'd had a clear out of old paperwork and binned the proof of posting, so I lost out completely. What really grieves me is that the item I was selling belonged to my late mum and had sentimental value. I sold it very reluctantly as I was desperate for the money at that time.
I wouldn't touch paypal again for all the tea in China.

hm so how can I receive payments over the internet is paypal the only way what are the charges for accepting a credit/debit card payment and if those are excluded from the standard free plan how else does one pay with pay pal ? does the person paying also have to be registered with pay pal or is that the advantage of the "pro" paypal account that it will take payments by credit/debit card like any other large retailer, perhaps thats safer than a simple free account and protects for instances like yours mrs_overall I plan on selling on ebay and from my own site if possible and getting done is not an option or I'll just give it to charity....
I would also say that I am in dispute with Paypal currently - I purchased something on ebay - which had Buyer Protection up to 150.00. They have found in my favour (buyer never sent goods) but will not refund me any money since they can't get it back form their customer - some protection.

I have given you the fees for accepting payment by credit and debit cards.

As long as you read the terms and conditions and understand the system properly you are as safe as you possibly can be.

Ebay buyers should only buy from sellers who display the PayPal protection shield and provide protection up to the cost of the item. This way you are guaranteed to get ALL your money back if the item does not arrive or is not as described. It works - I have made several claims myself and helped many others to get their money back too.

Ebay sellers should only send items to the address registered with ebay and should send by trackable means - PayPal will only accept a signature of receipt as proof of delivery. If the buyer claims the goods were not received but they have been signed for, they will not get their money back.

Don't forget cheques can be recalled many months after clearing - and the seller gets no comeback whatsoever.

Make sure you understand the system and you will be safe.

Yes. :)
Free for 50.00 GBP or more, 0.25 GBP for 49.99 GBP or less
That's how much it costs to move your money from your PayPal account to your bank account.
