Bank Accounts

After a short period of time out of work (and before that 3-4 years working in the family business where my wages came infrequent and usualy in cash) I now find myself thankfully back in gainful employment come the end of this month

But I have a pretty poor credit score no doubt, due to stupidity on my part in past years, and am still a few hundred pounds (total) in debt to various companies (Gas, and Barclays are 2 that are foremost) which I will now be able to clear

and so am worried about applying for a new bank account and getting turned down Are there are any banks, building societies etc that will give me an account, despite having the credit problem? No overdraft, no credit card, nothing like that. Just allows me to pay my wages in, and draw them out when I need to with a debit card., and also set up transfers from my account the companies etc I owe money to.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Each bank will have different criteria for offering you an account... you may well find that many are amenable to the situation you describe, but you will never know unless you speak to them.

Here is a handy article about Basic Bank Accounts...
