Can anyone tell me if they know of a credit card company whose call centre is in the UK and not India.

I am having trouble with my present credit card company and when I phone to try to sort it out I can't understand a word they are talking about.

I pay my card off at the end of every month.

I have had recent dealings with Nationwide, Egg and Tesco (RBS), all in the UK.

I suggest you find a card that appeals to you, and phone before applying to find out where the call centres are. If enough people complain the practice of farming calls out to foreign call centres may stop.

I did manage to embarrass myself last week though. I had to speak to VirginMedia and spoke to a heavily accented man who called himself Humphrey. A lovely man, but I couldn't understand him at all and was convinced his was in Mumbai. He wasn't - he was in the UK. Sorry, Humphrey.

LOL Don't worry about embarrassing yourself with Virgin Media Ethel. I have been dealing with them for over a month trying to get my elderly parents phone fixed. Everytime I spoke to someone they were in India. Eventually I got some sense from another really nice man with another accent....welsh lol, he was in Cardiff and got the job done for me.
I too wish they would bring the call centres back to the UK. I have just signed on with BT Broadbad and made the comment to the woman I was talking to that at least I could understand her and that the call centre would be in the UK.
WRONG....it is in India too. BRITISH Telecom in India - crazy eh?

GE Money, hav UK call centre and they give you 3% cash back on all fuel and grocery shopping

Thanks Mrs T. As I mostly use my credit card for my grocery shopping and for diesel that would be an advantage.
Like dzug said, Morgan Stanley are in the UK and I have found them to be so-so.

Whilst GE money do have UK call centres, when I called them recently to close an account I was put through to Mumbai....
I use my Tesco credit card for everything - and get extra points for using it. They quickly mount up.

In all the years I have been using it, I have had no problems whatsoever, and the call centres are in the UK as far as I know.
I think you are being a little unfair to our Indian friends. Call centre staff in India are very highly qualified, equivalent to a graduate here. I have never had any trouble understanding them, although I do sometimes get irritated by Taiwanese/American. Financial institutions have to act in the best interests of the shareholders and are free to set them up anywhere they like. Did you complain when that good old British product Dyson moved to Malaysia?

Hello Johnny37. I am not being unfairt to 'Our Indian friends'
Although they may well be highly qualified to graduate level they still cannot speak the language and where my money is concerned I am not taking any chances with it when I can't understand a word they are saying. I have no objections to the Indians being employed providing they at least make an attempt to speak 'Good English' seeing that is the country they will be dealing with.
People with heavy accents can cause a lot of trouble when they say one thing and really mean another.

In anaswer to your other question about Dyson. Yes I did boycott them when I needed to buy my new cleaner. Instead I went for an English company to keep our factories in employment.
