What are the big white grubs with orange heads that I have been digging up a lot of recently?

sounds like the lavae of the Chafer beetle, does about 11/2 inches (4cm) sound about right ?
Heres some advice on treatment from my readers digest book- "Before planting treat the soil with 'Primiphos-methyl dust, or work it in around the roots of existing plants.
Organic Advice- Mainly a problem of newly cultivatedland, numbers are quikly reduced by cultivation and weed control.
Other beetles have similar larvae as well - e.g. stag beetles. Also smaller beetles like violet ground beetles and devil's coach-horses.
