Press access / press pass

I am a genuine semi pro photgrapher (ie can only do it in my spare time ... for now !) ... does anyone know how I can go about obtaining / blagging / charming a press pass or trackside access for ANY motorsport / sporting events ? All I want to be able to do is be given the opportunity to prove to several companies that i am as good as I say I am and also build my portolio up ... I already have good general images of events but without the expensive gear of the pros the shots I can get from the "wrong side of the fence" are never going to have as much of an impact ... All help accepted !!

Press passes are always organised prior to the event.
If there is an event you want to get in with you need to phone & write before hand. Normally theses passes are only issued to people who have NUJ membership etc (National union of journo's) so might be worth if you can get a membership to a professional body as you do tend to get a lot of people trying to get these passes.

you have to speak to the PR who are promoting the event as they generally are in charge of who gets in
