My husband got into difficulty with his credit card and it was passed to a debt collection agency. He agreed to pay them 5 a week by standing order. This money has been coming out of our bank account every week, but the ebt recovery agency say that have not received it. The amount that has been paid is approx 250 so far and is still mounting. Despite sending numerous evidence that this money is being paid, we have still not got any further and now another debt collection agency has got involved and the amount has virtually tripled. the original amount was 869. A rep came to see my husband while i was out and was quite nasty with him, so much so it caused him to have a really bad angina attack. This money has been going out of my account for almost a year now and yet this company say that they have not received any payments. My husband has written to the credit card company asking them to write this debt off, because of all the distress it has caused him Where do we stand with this problem as we seem to be getting no further ?

Good luck.

Call the police. Selling on debts is an old con. the "new" agency is probably run by the same crooks as the first one. also contact your bank and ask them to trace where the money is going.

It's easy to say, but don't be intimidated by these people.

There's no point involving the police. It is normal practice for creditors to pass debts to debt collection agencies, and to change from one agency to another. Unless you have had notification that the debt has been sold, the agencies are simply acting for the original creditor.

You must get your bank to tell you the account details of where the money has been going - including the name of the company concerned. They should be able to show you the original request to set up the standing order, which I believe has to be in writing. When you have this information go back to the original creditor with the evidence of your payments, or see the CAB and ask their help.
