My fella and I recently stayed in a 'Travel Lodge' during a weekend away. On our second night, while we were out our room and several others were broken into. The thief had got hold of a master key but was spotted on the security camera and arrested. On checking out the following day the receptionist told us that someone would soon be writing to us about this incident, which we presumed would be an apology etc, but two months later we've heard nothing. My query is this. Do you think we should be entitled to some form of compensation for the inconvenince, bearing in mind we lost no property just had to stay up late giving statements. My fella thinks we should, but I think leave it. (Its causing rows!!)

Depends on how far you want to milk it, But you would of thought Travellodge as a goodwill gesture would offer some sort of compensation ie Free night etc, Thats if they value the customer.
Compensation for having to stay up late? I can't see why you should be compensated for that, I'm afraid. I think your fella should forget it.
as a rule they don't have to do anything but certainly as your room was one that was broken into i'd expect a complimentary stay or vouchers as courtesy. A little gesture goes a long way!
hal, The motto for travel lodge is ''Get a good nights sleep with us'' ?

I would write to them (just once) just to see what happens. Say that you are more disappointed with their security arrangements then anything else. And that you'd think very strongly about using them again or reccommending them to anyone else.

But personally i wouldn't expect anything back.

i like len's suggestion. also i might just let it be since nothing was stolen from you.
I'm sure that "Travel Inn" used to have a promise of a good night's sleep or your money back, but obviously this was subject to a certain amount of abuse. You should certainly try pushing again for some recompense for the stress and inconvenience caused. For the price of a stamp it's worth asking for more than just an apology. Go ahead and good luck.
Actually, I think that someone is overlooking the risk element here. Yes you might not have lost anything other than sleep, and we can't live our lives on "what ifs" BUT you need some kind of explanation about their security, how did someone get a key? regardless of what happened, something far more serious or sinister could have happened if you were in your room!
I would only want to know how the burglar had access to the master key - nothing more. The Company should then step up their security procedures.
For god's sake, what is the matter with everyone? Obsessed with compensation - what did you suffer - nothing!!!!! This country is going the way of America, heaven help us all. Jeez, stop being so self-obsessed, thinking all the time about what you can get out of a situation. Things go wrong, people make mistakes,it happens. You were not injured, you lost a little sleep - get over it. I am sick of compensation seeking whingers.
My sentiments too spinchimp!

Thanks for your answer Spinchimp. If you'd read the question properly you would have noticed that I was (Like yourself) totally against the compensation issue.By the way, Smudge, why don't you say what you think in the first place rather than waiting for somebody else to say it and then agreeing with them!!!

Terribly sorry sithlord!

In one of your para's, it reads: My query is: "Do you think we should be entitled to some form of compensation for the inconvenience.....?".

I replied "I would only want to know how the burglar had access to the master key - nothing more....". So I did say what I meant in the first place.

Most people on AB say either: ditto, agree, or the like to further answers! I am certainly not alone.

Have a lovely day!
